    North Dakota Oil Can!

North Dakota Oil Can! is an outreach and education program with the mission to open the lines of communication and improve understanding between the petroleum industry of North Dakota and key stakeholder groups such as property owners, policy makers, community leaders, media reporters and the general public. The program was created in 2008 and has since grown to include many educational and community events that are designed to give back to communities.

The “Oil Can!” program is based on three guiding principles:

    Listen first

The Oil Can program gives the petroleum industry opportunities to gather information from stakeholders through town hall meetings, websites, surveys and mailings. With this input, the industry gains an understanding of issues and concerns, and can respond to stakeholders in a timely manner.

    Develop partnerships

The Oil Can program is open to all organizations involved with the petroleum industry. No financial commitment is required. The only requirement is a desire to build positive working relationships that will benefit not only the oil industry, but stakeholders and the general public as well.

    Respect others

Public safety is a top priority. Development will be approached in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner. Property rights, laws and regulations will be respected, and community values and tribal traditions will be honored.

Oil Can! is guided by the North Dakota Petroleum Council’s Outreach and Communications Committees, which are made up of industry professionals ranging from operators to service companies to consultants.

What is the North Dakota Petroleum Council?

The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) has been supporting the oil and gas industry in North Dakota since 1952. With the recent expansion of drilling due to new recovery technologies, the NDPC works with industry partners, state and local governments, businesses, organizations and residents throughout the oil patch to develop the state’s much-needed energy resources safely and responsibly.

More than 500 companies make up the NDPC and are involved in all aspects of the oil and gas industry including oil and gas production, refining, pipeline, transportation, mineral leasing, consulting, legal work, and oilfield service activities in North Dakota, South Dakota and the Rocky Mountain Region. NDPC members produce 98 percent of the oil produced in the state.
